"Jellyfish"

Artist Statement:

"Jellyfish" is named for both the photo used and the general vibe of this piece.

I took the photo at the aquarium in Atlanta, my favorite place to experience Jellyfish... We go way back to my very first major solo show. To keep the cool feel of the setting, I chose a mild lavender color background.

The model, one of my favorite friends to draw, exudes confidence and embraces a state of relaxation. The movement in the composition of the jellyfish is one of calm. The small colorful bursts in the design of the fish is mirrored in the glowing embers in the cigarette as she casually smokes. She is thoughtful and grateful while she enjoys her peace.
