"Eventuality (Hyalophora Cecropia)"
In “Eventuality” the subject is a child mesmerized by the large caterpillar of the Cecropia Moth. Both are in their youth and both represent a lifetime of change and transformation ahead. There is an optimism in her gaze and a curiosity for what is to come.
The beautiful model for this piece is my niece, Bonnie. The caterpillar that I photographed is one of three that I raised a few summers ago.
I'm always in awe of the process of transformation and growth. This piece becomes a way for the viewer to join in the childlike wonder of possibility and in looking ahead.
Side note: My niece is 1/4 Italian, and my choice for the background was a lovely vintage-style Italian imported archival paper.
