"Cocoon"

Artist Statement:

"Cocoon" is a nod to my use of the moth in my work. The moth is my symbol of the underrepresented, primarily where it relates to women in all walks of life.

The subject embraces her body as if in a cocoon herself. She has been at war with her body for ages... marketed to by our culture...and told that she isn't good enough. She has been working to shed that internal messaging.

She is looking up at the light as she is gathering her strength to emerge. Her body language is shifting in perspective. She is almost there... where the embrace will be one of love, not struggle.
