"Citheronia Regalis, for Marlow Moss"

Artist Statement:

In “Citheronia...”, the strong design of Moss’ line work was the driving theme. In researching her art, I found that her paintings were being created at the same time as Mondrian, yet her name was rarely (or never) mentioned. The innocence and exasperation of the child modeling in this piece sums up both the general feeling of the emotions behind the work. The original line composition and plane shape was altered to create a new composition for the figure and moths, but the general motif is a direct visual quote. The moth species was chosen to highlight the hard red lines present in both the moth and the minimalist work.
