"Sage"

Artist Statement:

"Sage" possesses multiple layers of meaning.

The portrait subject is my dear friend Neema. She is someone I've been inspired to use in my work over and over again. She is wise and I celebrate her for her counsel and love for others.

The title is a nod to that wisdom, and naturally, the color chosen for the background. The herb of the same name is known for its cleansing power, to rid negative energy. The subject embraces her wisdom, her instincts, and her knowledge of herself. There is a renewal and a rebirth when a woman finds her power and acceptance and her love for herself.

She becomes a beacon for other women. A safe space. A sage.
